My Hair Is......

Meet Dominique Grant born and raised in Brooklyn New York but now residing in Connecticut. I'm a Personal Care Assistant who loves music, cooking, reading, & vlogging.

My Hair Is.... (natural/relaxed)?
My hair is natural and fabulousWhat does your hair mean to you?
It's my personality and style. Since I went natural my confidence has went through the roof. Wouldn't change it for the world.

How long have you been natural/relaxed?
I've been natural for 1 year and 9 months.

What are your favorite styles to wear?
Two strand twist/twist outs, two strand flat twist and Fro hawk.

How do you take care of your hair? (stylist)
I do not have a stylist, when I went natural I decided that I needed to learn how to do own my hair (saves money but can also show what kind of potential you have to understand your hair). I can't do extensions myself, box braids, kinky twists & Senegalese twist I leave to the professionals.

What's your hair care regimen?
My hair regimen is to detangle/pre-poo (Queen Helene cholesterol with added oils) and co-wash every week or week and a half ( Tresseme Flawless Curls Hydration). Shampoo with Creme Of Nature Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo when necessary (depends on what kind of styler I used the week before). Deep conditioning (Africa's Best Tea Tree Cholesterol) every week is a must !!! Twice a week I do the baggy method and scalp massages (castor oil with rosemary leaves). I always make sure to seal in the moisture (leave-in condition water based, oil, and cream) then I style my hair (Miss Jessie's, Shea Moisture, or Dr.Miracles)

 Do you have style inspirations?
Definitely, a lot!!! Teyana Taylor, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rachel True, Solange Knowles, Cree Summer, Leela James, and Corraine Bailey Rae.

 Who is your hairstyle crush?
Omg! Tracee Ellis Ross and Solange Knowles

 What's your staple product?
I must have Castor Oil and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

 What's your go to style?
I do twist outs forever and a day. Lol!

 What is your style mantra?
Fearless, confident, authentic, funky and carefree.

 What is your life mantra?
Dare be different because everyone else is trying to blend in. Laugh a lot, work hard and love harder because tomorrow is never promised.

Products I'm Using

I've only been wearing natural styles for a month and I think I am really getting use to it, believe me when I say it is truly a journey. There are times were I get frustrated because I never had to style my own hair. Now that I do, I don't want it to look a mess, so I study, study, study and do some more studying, then there's research. This journey has been just that a long walk down a road of uncertainty, I'm still looking for my staple product and how to define my curls. The search continues. Here is what I have used so far:

Ok so I really LOVE Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue and Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner. I have been washing my hair with Aphogee, I don't know if I like it that much, I use the moisturizing shampoo. I'm not going to say I don't like it I'm just not sure if it's moisturizing my hair like it should. I also use Tea Tree Oil (scalp) and Olive Oil (moisturize).

However my hair stays dry (Tea Tree fixed me), that's from it being permed for the last six years. I am never going back to relaxers, I LOVEEEEEEEEE being NATURAL!

The first time I wore my fro

I'm still natural here but this is just a blow out

Natural Diva

Having natural hair to some women is like entering into a dark room and never coming out for the fear of what might happen. Some women love and embrace it, others will not think twice about it. The movie "Good Hair" had African American women thinking hard about what to do with their hair. The Creamy Crack was the most talked about subject; months after the movie premeired. Personally I have been battling with my own hair, my hair has been natural most of my life, in ninth grade I got my first relaxer, by eleventh grade I was back natural. However Freshman year of college I went back to relaxers, then once I graduate from college it was back to my roots(literally). Now is the time folks, I am shedding my flat irons, and my wigs to embrace my natural hair. I'm still in search of what are good products. If you know don't be shy to let me know, take the poll. I appreciate my readers!
