What genre of MUSIC can’t you live without?
I can't live without FUNK, JAZZ, or NEO-SOUL! Funk music is one of the main driving forces behind GoGo, which is one of many strong musical pulses of the DMV and it's culture. Jazz speaks for itself alot of artist dabble in it from John Legend to classic hip hop tracks....And Neo-soul is just sooo sooo smooth it's "kick your feet up" music. lol!!
How BIG is MUSIC in your life?
Music is the soundtrack to my life, the underlining tone that sets the scenery for my reality! I've always drowned myself in music and along with the photography of my memory there's a song I'd be able to throw out with various events in my life. I think a lot of fellow music lovers can agree with me on that...
What inspires your MUSIC?
My inspiration can be sporadic at times but mostly emotions! I used to always resort to anger when overwhelmed by various emotions it's so much easier to just throw it all out over a beat and melody....feels better...not to mention it brings a more positive reaction from those who come in contact with it lol.
Who has influenced you MUSICALLY?
Above ALL my brother, P.Kay is my inspiration! He's been making beats since I was in middle school and I've been his number one fan since :)! I'm so grateful and thankful that we are able to work together like we do, he's pretty awesome!
Overall I'm influenced by the arts....I LOVE poets and spoken word...the emotion and word play is so crazy inspiring...
To name drop in the mainstream music world though, I am influenced by Jill Scott and Erykah Badu to name the "top" two. The list goes on and on though Jean-Luc Ponty, Herbie Hancock, John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Bill Withers, Crystal Waters, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Brown...on and on and on lol
What are some words you live by (Style or Life)?
Hmmm words I live by....
"..be the change you wish to see.." - at a point in my pre-career I found myself fussing a lot about how music was loosing its depth and meaning...so I'd carry on about how the radio sucked lol...finally decided to add my 2 cents...hence my artistic launching!
"..lord bless my footsteps and those who follow..." - simply put...you never know who looks up to you...I can only hope and pray that the Lord guides and continues to bless me/us on this journey called LIFE :) (so corny I know lol)
"...lather in your awesomeness daily..." - Basically just like we go through our rituals everyday to shower, brush our teeth, eat breakfast, etc we need to make it a point/ritual to tell ourselves how awesome and unique we are! It's a great way to start the day...being yourself :)
If it wasn’t for MUSIC what would you be doing right now?
If it wasn't for music....to be deep and seriously real right now, I'm not sure I'd be here...(I'ma take you to church real quick) the Lord drug me out of a really hard and depressing time through music. It was in this stage of my life that I was completely delivered from my depression and chaotic behavior and traded in my sorrows for the melody that bellows out when I open my mouth.
I will never mistake what I have as anything more or less than the gift that was given to me in sacrifice of myself and my pains....I have no choice but to share...and thank God everyday for the people he's placed around me :)
What mark will you leave on the MUSIC Industry?
I plan to leave the mark of artistic freedom, innocence, and FEEL! I want people to remember and know that the vibe I give is RAW and ACHIEVABLE just open up and let it flow!
