Spotlight on the Community


Meet TV reporter and fashionista Sheila Fortson who is helping style women for a great cause. Her passion for repurposing and recycling outfits and home goods in glamorous ways has caught the attention of The Salvation Army USA and The Impact Thrift Store non-profit group. She serves as a guest blogger, workshop facilitator, event host, fundraising partner and fashion ambassador for both organizations. She also gives thrift store shopping tips to low income/homeless individuals and loves being a part of helping them get back on their feet.

 Recognized by Glamour Magazine Online, The Philadelphia Daily News, and additional publications and blogs, Sheila Fortson is a an accomplished media professional known to many as "The Glam Thrifter", thanks to her ability to find looks that fashion conscious women adore at rock bottom prices. Fortson has close to a decade of experience as a television and radio host TV 2 News” & “The Valley View” Lifestyle program in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. She also owns Hidden Glam, a unique shopping destination, both online (www.HiddenGlam.com) and in-store (Ambler, PA), that offers affordable new merchandise and one of a kind "Glam Thrifted" finds.



I got the chance to catch up with Sheila to find out some personal and dear information about her and she was willing to share,

Where are you from?
Philadelphia, PA

What inspired you to become the Glam Thrifter?
My love of creating fashionable looks without going broke in the process!

What is the ultimate goal of the Glam Thrifter?
 To teach invaluable money saving skills that can be used to maximize your wardrobe, so you have money left over to fund your life's dreams and goals and help the people in our society who need it most.

How important is it for you to help the community (homeless citizens)?
It's vital to what I do and who I am at my core. I consider it a civic duty to support the neediest in our society. So much so that I've made giving back a big part of my business structure by partnering with local non profit groups in my area.

 Are there any other community outreach activities that you are involved in?
I am proud and active member of my sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., serving as a youth mentor and media organizer for my local chapter.

What is your Style Mantra?
Fashion rules were meant to be broken. It's how individuality thrives. 

What is your Life Mantra?
Breathe life into every dream you have, because no matter the outcome, the ride will be unforgettably amazing.
