My Life Is.....

Meet The Queen of The Glam Khadijah Williams
from Washington, DC

How did makeup become apart of your life?
I’ve been a makeup fanatic, long before I even knew how to apply a stitch of cosmetics! As a youngster I’d play in my aunts’ makeup all the time. But as I grew older my love for makeup grew as well. I’d constantly get compliments on my makeup, and people always asked did I do makeup. So with a lot of encouragement from family and friends I jumped in the industry with loads of excitement. I did my first event and was completely sold. The great thing was everyone thought I had been doing it for a while, so I went with it and here I am now!

What do you like most about being a Make Up Artist?
I love the fact that with a few step by step beauty tricks, I can totally transform a person into someone they never knew they could be. My reward is making the client feel good about themselves inside and out!

What’s your favorite thing to do with makeup?
I’d have to say adding white or beige liner to the waterline. It totally awakens the face, and makes one look well-rested. It’s an age old beauty trick, but many don’t know about it and are shocked at its eye opening experience.

What is your make up pet peeve?
BROWS, ladies use a shade most two shades lighter than your hair. I’m well aware that you may have dark hair, but your eyebrows don’t have to be dark as well. IF you happen to use pencil, after penciling them in dust a pressed powder over the brows so they won’t look waxy! If you have a hard time finding your brow shape, try stencils to be your guide.

Can you give a Makeup Tip to my female readers: When looking for a lip color shade, test it out on the tip of you finger! This is closest to your lip shade. Also, when using lipstick always use a lip brush opposed to applying straight from the tube. This will provide precision and color the lips in fully first then apply the lipstick.

What's a make up essential?
"A lot of women think that smokey eyes can only be done in the form of black and gray. & that's a huge myth! You can use emerald greens, deep plums, blues. Or for a sultry look warm golden tones. Always remember blending is KEY"

What’s your favorite makeup brand?
I don’t have just one, I use MAC sometimes, but that is NOT the only brand out there people! I’ll go to the drugstore in a minute, Iman Cosmetics is awesome! But I don’t have only one specific favorite at this very moment. That may change tomorrow (giggles)

Who would you love to do makeup for?
Michelle Obama, hands down.

What’s a makeup don’t?
Blackest black eyebrows

Who inspires you to do makeup?
Sam Fine, he is a renowned celebrity makeup artist, with clients such as Patti Labelle, Queen Latifah, RuPaul, and Tyra Banks just to name a few. He also has a book, Fine Beauty, and instructional DVD; The Basics of Beauty. He IS the go-to artist for women of color, says Vogue.
