I'm So Vain

When you hear the phrase "So Vain" you instantly think about someone being conceited, or having total interest in one self, but that phrase goes far beyond than just being a phrase. So Vain has actually become an idea a young entrepreneur had, were people can read up on information about local artist, fashion, sports and so much more.

The owner and creator of SoVain Magazine, Sylvanus Uagbor 24, from Baltimore, Maryland ran with his ambition to create a publication that would catch the interest of so many. Writing didn’t become a niche for him until 2008, when he graduated from Morgan State University. He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marketing with a goal to work for himself and bring happiness around the people that he cares about, dearly. His plans for SoVain Magazine have just begun, read about how it got started and where it's heading for the future.

SF:When did you start your magazine?
SU:I started the magazine in March 2010.

SF:How did you start your magazine?
SU:
I was driving an idea came to mind about writing, I had a blog but didn't push it as much. So I stopped and pursued Grad School. I went browsing a website that sparked my interest, it wasn't going to be a magazine at first, it was just going to be a website. I liked the design/layout of a magazine so I decided to put it online. It's a lot of ambitious African Americans but they don't have a way to market themselves, my website is another tool to spot light them.

SF:Have you ever done any type of publication work before starting your own magazine?
SU:
I have never worked for a publication before I started my magazine. I started reading and writing more before starting my own publication. I begin studying the craft because I wanted to learn more before I worked for a publication so I became an entrepreneur for my self.

SF:How did you come up with the name "SoVain" for your magazine?
SU:It derived from my name Sylvanus, pronounced Syl-vain-us. It's also an acronym So. Very.Ambitious. INdividuals. Magazine

SU:
I've been putting content on the website, so I can build up a fan base on the social media networks (facebook, twitter) Plugging by word of mouth, and other media website. I also have a publicist, Candice Nicole of Candice Nicole Public Relations.

SF:What's in the future for "SoVain" Magazine?
SU:
For SoVain Magazine to be the leading destination for trends, news, fashion and all around entertainment. I want to publish it, with a full team present, and publications in stores. My plans for SoVain Magazine is to turn it into a local magazine, with the possibility of distribution throughout the east coast.
