The National Cathedral was a packed house in paying homage to Dr. Dorothy Height. President Barack Obama gave the eulogy, sharing stories of his relationship with Dr. Height. The time and the act of service that she gave to the work of helping others is what brought so many people out, like Michelle Obama, Marion Barry, Debra Lee, Rev.Tony Lee(Pastor of Community of Hope) Omarosa, Dick Gregory, Don King, Senator Harry Reid, Ambassador Susan Rice, and Paul Wharton. On the program Maya Angelou,Camille Cosby (wife of Bill Cosby), Bishop Vashtie Mckenzie, Alexis Herman with musical selections from Howard University Choir, BeBe Winans, Jeff Majors and Denyce Graves.
CNN broadcasted the service live for those who were unable to attend. Many spoke of what they remembered about her. If you were familiar with Dr. Height when you saw her she was always dressed in a suit with an embellished hat, which became her signature. Today she will take her rest, her legacy will live on in lives that she inspired.
