I recently got the chance to go to a photo shoot with model Tamara Martin, 29 from Northern Virginia. I assisted her and my friend Ruby (who is a fashion stylist from Virginia) with all the behind the scene action like lighting and styling. I also got an exclusive interview, take a look:
SF:Tell me about yourself?
TM:I consider myself a Jane of all trade because I have done runway modeling, print, event production, behind the scenes and Public Relations. I have a B.A. of Fine Arts Degree in Fashion from Virginia Commonwealth University. I started out at Bauder Fashion College in Atlanta, Georgia. I use to work for Model Source INC., were I became a Program Manager it extends from VA, MD, NY, FL and CA. I have an innate ability for leadership, organization and coordination.
SF:How long have you been modeling?
TM:I started modeling in 1998
SF:What type of modeling do you like to do?
TM:Runway, I specialize in personal development, runway modeling and coaching.

SF:Who have you worked with in the industry?
TM:I have worked with Zulima Project, Bianca from America's Next Top Model cycle 13, Jonathan of Project Runway , the show The Fashion Show on Bravo, Global Women Magazine, Washington Times, Conscience Fashion Magazine, Local Designers urban and couture, DC Fashion Week and The Advisory Board of Strut at VCU which had 200 attendees.

TM:I am also the glambassador for Glamour Magazine, when events are planned for my region I am the organizer and the host of the events. I have been hold that position for 1 year. I worked with Nexxus, Global Mind and some Non-Profits.
SF:How would you describe your personality?
TM:My personality is the perfect temperament between introverted/to myself and outgoing/once I get to know you.
SF:What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
TM:I am a home body, I love to read and I'm a fan of 80's low budget B movies.
SF:Who is your favorite designer?
TM:Oh sooo many, but I would say Missoni, the prints are amazing...especially because my closet pretty much consists of black and shades of gray. Missoni's daring color blends inspires me to "try" to step outside of my comfort zone. Also, there is an up and coming designer Tristan Blake, based out of Washington, DC. He is a visionary and truly gifted in design and construction. Look out for him!!!
SF:Do you have a favorite photographer?
TM:I'm a fan of local photographers, I love finding a diamond in the rough. I'm not one that is attracted to status, but I focus on ability.
SF:Who inspires you? If so are they in the industry? If not does anyone in the industry inspire you?
TM:The Lord inspires me, to be better, to seek Him for direction. Every talent and ability I have, He purposed for me. He's the only one that steers me. I do however, respect so many people out there who are using their talents in the industry,
SF:Is there anyone in particular that you are dying to work with?
TM:I am a behind the scenes type of person. I like to know how the wheels of a company move. I'd love to work with Patricia Fields..she has an eye that is truly gifted. I'd like to shadow her for a day and possibly walk in her shoes..(their probably Blahnik's)
SF:Any advice for aspiring models?
TM:Culture yourself! Immerse yourself in all things Fashion..Stay current, not just in Fashion but in World issues. Also, HUMBLE yourselves. We need to know that we are advertisements and at times a glamorous coat hanger. Don't be haughty and too confident..it exudes arrogance. Make a commitment to yourself to do your job. Walk in meekness, power under control!!!
SF:How do you remain focused and calm while shooting?
TM:It's difficult at times, my facial expressions are controlled by my thoughts, so in order to attempt different expressions, I have to think about a lot of things at once!

Stay tuned for up and coming photo shoots, fashion shows and events with model Tamara Martin
