I am in love with fashion and recently realized in my college years that I am a shopaholic(that's neither here nor there). However I recently reconnected with a college friend from Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland(yes I went there). She shares a deeper love for fashion though, her eye is impeccable and her style is amazing. Meet Ms. Ruby Redd Cheeks a fashionista and glam stylist of the future.
SF: So can you give a bio of who you are?
RRC:I am originally from East Orange, New Jersey, but I was raised in Fredricksburg, Virginia since age 11. I attended Coppin State University, majoring in Economics and Finance. I have always had a strong passion for "enhancing" ones beauty. I obtained my license in cosmetology during high school, and from then on maintained being a hairstylist part-time. From that it just grew into a love of fashion, engulfing myself in everything associated with it. I was a model in College, coordinated events for designers as well as fashion shows. Style Director for multiple fashion shows, and backup hairstylist/makeup artist. So basically just a renaissance women of fashion!
SF:Do you have a favorite model?
RRC:I really like Chanel Iman. I think she's so graceful and mature for her age. She started out at 13, and her career has skyrocketed since. She exudes such a confidence and demeanor that is very likeable. You never hear negative stuff about her in the tabloids, so I hope she continues to take pride in her image.
SF:What designers would you like to work with?
RRC: Carl Lagerfeld! Oh my goodness he is such a legendary designer working for one of my favorite brands. I love the boldness that he brings to Chanel. He wraps my style up in a nutshell. I love the strong shoulders in their blazers, bold colors, and color-block.
SF:Do you have any role models in the industry?
RRC:I admire and respect everyone who has excelled in their dream because it is very hard at times to stay committed. They are really leading the way by being visionaries and give me more inspiration for my own style. Hopefully I will be that person someday.
SF: Is there someone who inspires you?
RRC:My grandmother was my inspiration. She was a seamstress, and she also was a crafter. She has such a creative mind. Also my mother, she also was a seamstress and had her own boutique in New Jersey selling her hand sewn lingerie.
SF:What is your title?
RRC:Professionally, I am the Operations Coordinator for Feld Entertainment, which produce Ringling Brothers Circus and Disney on Ice. In Fashion, I'm a freelance stylist/makeup artist/hairstylist.
SF:Describe your style?
RRC:Hmmmmm......my friend once described me as "a hodge podge of style" varying from vintage to urban. I don't put myself in a box with my style or what I like. I choose standout pieces whether in jewelry, clothes, or shoes. My signature is my rings. I've gone bananas over them the last few years. Definitely having a standout eclectic piece is my priority.
SF:Who is your favorite designer?
RRC:So many to choose from, but I really like Diane Von Furstenburg for her whimsical pieces and florals. She also has very classy designs that are great for the working fashionista!

SF:What is a "fashion must have" for both men and women?
RRC:I would say a very stylish versatile blazer. The blazer will never go out of style. You can mix and match with anything.
SF:You are also a make-up artist correct?
RRC:Correct. I've been an artist for about 3 years.
SF:What type of products do you use?
RRC:MAC
SF:What is your favorite make-up line?
RRC:MAC! Lol! I really love their range of colors and their products are for anyone. I saw an 80 year old women there buying eyeliner the other day and saying how much she loved their products.
SF:What style of men's fashion catches your attention?
RRC:I like men's clothes that fit! Fit is key for a man. A man who dresses freely and fashionable is cool for me since I don't dress in a "box" myself. As long as he's comfortable and has manly confidence, then he's a winner in my book.
SF:What men's style is a turn off?
RRC:Baggy anything! I think its very childish, and dirty shoes. I'm sorry, but your feet have to be on. Plus men who overdue it with accessories and jewelry. To me that says you are trying too hard to be stylish or cool.
SF:Do you have any tips to give to the fashionistas/fashionistos
RRC:I would definitely say just be true to yourself and what you like. Don't try to overdue it with trying to fit in with the new fad. Have a signature or staple piece with anything to enhance your look. Ladies, if you have on a simple tank top and jeans, step the look up with a bib necklace. Simplicity is also stylish, so don't think too hard!
SF:Where do you see yourself in the future with fashion?
RRC:Prayerfully just doing everything I love! Being the go-to-person for all your needs. That's why I continue to practice and perfect my craft. I was blessed with it, so I just want to help others.
SF:How can you be contacted for bookings?
RRC:My email address is mypashun4fashun@aol.com. Once I receive an inquiry I will contact you by phone for more details. Please be sure to include your name and telephone number.
