Today marks a sad day in radio, the green eyed, smooth talking, handsomely brown skin Donnie Simpson says good bye to all his listeners after 17 years on his morning show with WPGC 95.5 FM. Donnie Simpson's career in radio started 32 years ago, so yesterday's show consisted of telephone conversations with celebrity friends such as Bob Johnson(founder of BET) who said "Donnie you are a pioneer in this business, Also Debra Lee (the CEO of BET) spoke of her relationship with Donnie, when he was a host on BET's Video Soul. She stated "there will never be another like him in radio". Others included the illustrious Ms. Dorothy Height a civil rights activist and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and R&B singers John Legend, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and rapper Wyclef Jean. DC's own Raheem DeVaughn and Chuck Brown stopped by the station to wish Donnie the best in his future endeavors. WPGC held a farewell celebration at the station to send Donnie off in a great way. Lunch was held at one of DC's landmark restaurant Ben's Chili Bowl from 12pm-2pm and lunch was on Donnie.

Here at Freexpression we love and support Donnie Simpson and WPGC. Thank you Donnie for waking me up for 11 years of my life. I wish you well in your future endeavors, may God be with you and continue to bless you and your family.
